Actually, it was still in tact. I was surprised. It's kind of one of those things that you have to decide if you want to replace. I knew I was going to take the pump off so I had planned on doing it.

Yeah. I understand. My cam should be here this week but i am waiting on the fuel pump, head bolts, and balancer before I pull it apart. Broken gets replaced, in tact gets to stay.

Well I didn't get much done today. I had to go back to work. I did get the old needle bearings pressed out of the rockers which was pretty easy. I also installed the springs in one head. I bought one of those cheap $15 screw type compressors. I would highly suggest anyone doing this with the heads off to get a manual c-clamp style compressor because this was ridiculous. I was trying to save some money and skimped out, but it's definitely worth it to get a nice one.

In the morning I'm going to do the other head and try to get them on so I can start buttoning things up. I'd like to get it running on Friday so I have the weekend to troubleshoot anything/drive it.

I still need to do a little cleaning on the heads. Probably just hit them with brake parts cleaner and mineral spirits. The gaskets are already scraped off.

Youre gettin there! You keep moving forward and it'll be done before you know it.

Without a good tool the springs can be a total pain in the ***... I feel your pain. With a good tool and heads off the engine it would have been a really quick job.

Great job on this! How much do you have into this in parts?

My 07 has 100k miles, I have DoD disabled in the tune but I'm really worried one of the lifters will fail causing further problems. Trying to convince the wife that installing a cam not only will get me more performance but will potentially extend the life of the motor. Especially with replacing the oil pump etc. I think it's a win win, right?

The c clamp style didn't work for me the valve sits to deep in the head. I bolted the head down to my work table and used the "crowbar" style.

This reminds me of when i did the same on my brothers G8. Except the G8 oil pan is huge, it holds 8 quarts of oil and the steering rack has to be moved foward a bit with the motor lifted to get it out. I used a c clamp style valve spring compressor on the heads and it was alot easier than when i did the springs on my truck with them on the truck lol. When its all said n done it will be worth it.

Thanks for all of the moral support guys! It's been slow going during the week as I anticipated. Work + a high maintenance dog and no wife here have kind of put a stop to things.

Tonight I pressed in the new trunion upgrade (took about an hour with a shop press) and FINALLY got all of the springs on. With that done I feel like it's all down hill.

I'm not sure how much I have in them. I've been collecting for about 7 months! I'll go back and total everything up when I get done so guys can get an idea. I think I'm doing a standard "turbo guy" cam and dod delete so it should give everyone a pretty good baseline.

Your truck would be sick with this setup!

Geez, that sounds worse than these trucks!

Thanks man, I'll keep posting! No pics tonight though cause there isn't much to see. I plan on taking more pictures as I finish and I'll bust out the nikon for some idle videos for y'all.

Quick Question, I see on the Stickied thread in the GMT900 section for DoD delete they call for a LS2 timing cover with sensor and gaskets, part#12633906 did you get one of these or are you just able to re-use the stock timing cover?
