Dual pumps shouldnt require a retune if the second is on a hobbs switch of sorts, but even if it does I know a guy...
I've seen countless failures from every single pump on the planet... Aeromotive/ China Stealth 340, Walbro 255, Walbro 450, AEM, you name it! They're all hard to get good lifespan out of them with the pressures we ask of them. 75psi+ is hard on a pump. I also think a DD is even harder on a pump, not to mention the E85. When I took it apart, the strainer was absolutely disgustingly filthy. I think that 10 years of varnish and gasoline residue were stripped clean from the ethanol and ended up on the strainer.
If you're running E, you need dual pumps over 550 reliably.
If and when the BAP kills the F90000274 pump, I will go dual pumps. I had to get the truck back together quick and the wiring on a dual pump will take me a bit of time to get it clean.
Keep doing things the wrong way and you'll end up kabooming it.
You can do the duals and not wire in the second pump until you get the extra harness.
I appreciate the input. I will stay out of boost and monitor the fuel pressure until I can do the dual pump setup. I gutted the stock assembly, but the spot where the filter used to be has a large opening, and I don't want to let the 2nd pump dangle in there. Everything else (bulkhead, etc) is already setup for the 2nd pump. Anyone have any idea where I can get a 1.535" ID / 2.5" OD sleeve? I ordered a piece of aluminum that was 1.5" ID / 2.5" OD but the Walbro won't fit.
Zip tie it to the bucket...itll be hanging out in gas. Its fine.
I tried that once out of curiosity, didn't like the fact that the bases of the two Walbro 450's were in contact. I think some sort of vibration dampener is a good idea, and to keep the harmonics of the two pumps separated.
Alright guys so the truck has been sitting for a while since I needed a break, then I tried to trade it but nothing decent came, then I decided to keep it for a while . I can't DD it anymore because of my back, it just rides too stiff, but I really want to run 10s with my current setup, so I'm working towards that now. I plan to go to the track in Jan or Feb when the air is cold and DA is negative.
Recently I noticed that the front most bolt head on the turbo manifold had broken off, and I could see a little soot around the #2 cylinder port, so I decided to rip it all apart and take care of a few other things at the same time. New AC Delco motor and trans mounts, ARP exhaust manifold studs, AC Delco manifold gaskets. No significant changes but I might weld my wastegate flange directly to the manifold as no matter what I do I see soot at that junction after a few months of driving. I also took a few minutes to "port match" the driver's side manifold to the Trick crossover. I don't think it will be worth any power, but it was bugging me so I did it anyways.
Other than that, I'm going to be getting a new exhaust built, 3" mandrel all the way to the back, with a cutout at the downpipe. The 4" is simply too loud, it has gotten even louder once mileage has been put on the Magnaflow muffler. So if anyone wants a nice custom mandrel bent 4" exhaust let me know...
Manifold before:
Manifold after:
ARP studs in place:
OEM motor mount next to AC Delco. Heat shield is a little different. Stock was still pretty stiff. I'm actually wondering if I even needed to replace these. And for what GM charges for these, I probably wouldn't have. Highway robbery. Motor mounts are probably made in Ching Chong but hey at least the trans mount is made in Canada!
Turbo is holding up great
Manifold was definitely leaking a little bit:
And a few of the truck itself. I did have time recently to refinish and polish the headlights. They turned out pretty nice and will buy me some time before they need to be replaced.
