I was able to drill the bolt and remove it with a easy out.

Made some progress on tearing down the engine today, it looks like there was some water sitting in the number 6 and 8 cylinders.

Getting a few more things figured out.

So the build so far is planned for:

Motor:

LQ4 iron block bored 4.030
Callies Compstar 4" stroke forged crank.
Callies Compstar 6.125 H beam rods W/ARP2000 rod bolts.
Wiseco 4.030 8cc dish pistons.
Cometic 4.060 head gaskets .045 thickness.
Texas Speed Ported LS6 Oil Pump w/ O-Ring.
Cloyes LS1/LS2-1x/LS6 Race Billet True Roller Single Roller Timing Set.
Chevrolet Performance LS3 Cylinder Heads 12629063/68.4cc with upgraded springs.
Lifters?
Rockers?
Push rods?
Chevrolet Performance LS3 Intake Manifold 12638197
Custom cam shaft, looking at Straub Custom Camshafts.

This should get me around a CR of 10.9:1

Fuel:

Walbro 400
Aeromotive A1000
Racetronics wiring kit
Russel 3/8" fuel rail fitting #640940
Russel 5/16" fuel rail fitting #640930

New headers and exhaust needs figured out.

I'm running a 383 iron block, the only difference from your 408 is a smaller bore size. After 10k miles of use, I note the following:

1. 1qt of oil consumption per 1k miles.
2. 4-5x higher aluminum content in oil analysis.

Excessive oil consumption, and premature piston wear seem to ring true for my 4" stroke build.

That being said, it runs great and I have no regrets.

Thanks I appreciate your input, I figure you have to pay to play so if I have to freshen up the motor after a couple years I will. I see you have a 4l80e, what have you done to it and how is it holding up? I need to figure out what to do with mine.

the 4l80e is totally stock. I don't race, but I'm definitely not easy on the throttle. The tranny doesn't have any problems and always stays cool. I read that the stock 4l80e is rated to 800 lb-ft torque.

Ok thanks, I plan on a rebuild for mine with a Transgo HD2 kit. It has 140,000 on it and slips in first once in a while. I just need to find someone in the Seattle area to do it.

Well figured I would post an update, I ended up having to sell my 2003 2500HD to buy another work rig. So I am going to build the motor this year and then find a 2500HD RCSB to drop it into. The plan is for a streetable high 11 bracket racer with about 650hp to the wheels. The block is at the machine shop getting checked out right now. Anyone run 91 pump gas and then use meth injection to up octane levels to run higher compression? I found some older posts but was wondering if there was any new info out there.
