it still feels like it's slipping from a 40 roll to WOT when it downshifts to 1st and always has.
Thanks Rob!

Yes, I let it shift into 3rd then stomp on it. Like I said, the truck just won't get out of it's own way after the downshift.

Also, was just wondering if any of you guys have the Transgo Shift Kit on your 80e's? I was thinking that maybe this would help and especially help with the super smooth shifting (which I totally can't stand).

On a decently built trans, a transgo kit is pretty much pointless. The right combination of Sonnax valves and springs is better any day of the week IMO. On a stock build then a transgo is great. You can adjust shift pressures in your tune. There are other ways to adjust the shift but that would require some valvebody work and I wouldnt suggest that if you dont know what you are doing.

Randy my FLT rifles off upshifts very fast. I think the changes you want/need can be found in your tune.

check your email.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with a transgo it's just that all said and done if the trans is built there isn't much from the kit you will actually use unless it's a stock trans.

Ya, I read you. I just watched the video again of you racing the S10, the trans sounds perfect to me? You want my opinion? leave the trans alone! And just for the record, I DO NOT use the Transgo kit in any of my 80's.

The trans. seems to be just fine except for the soft shifting. I was just wanting your opinion to adjust the shift pressure to make 1-2 and 2-3 a bit firmer - is this okay to do the way you've built this trans.? I know we discussed the Transgo Kit during the ordering process and you told me you didn't use them anymore.

My only concern is the downshift into 1st from a 40 roll - there is without a doubt an "issue" there and I'm hoping it's the converter loading up like Rob said in that earlier post.

FYI, every built 80E I have driven in feels kinda odd on a hard 1st downshift. I thought mine was slipping under those circumstances also and logged it and found it was not.

Logging your trans input and output speed will tell you if it is. 1st gear ratio is 2.48 so break out a calculator.

That would be awesome if you could help me out in calculating this so we can hopefully figure out what's going on there. I'm attaching a file I made for Chris from Circle D. I would specifically like you to look at frame 1357 where I'm doing 40mph @ 3155 RPMS (100 RPMS earlier than the Converter's brake stalling at) at a log time of 4:40.562. Then look at frame 1361 where I'm only doing 42 mph after the downshift into 1st @ 4985 RPMS and a log time of 4:41.357 (close to 1 full second later and have only gained 2 MPH on the downshift) That truck should be pinning me back in my seat there and it's won't even get out of it's own way! It's really GLARING when you drive the truck. In fact, when you have the "Charts" display open in the HPT software, take a tape measure and hold it up to the computer screen, there is a very obvious horizontal flat area on the green MPH line that measures 1/8" long exactly at the frames mentioned above!
