That's what I'm saying. Kind of an ignorant comment if you ask me. It's not like your builder casts his own cases or buys new cores directly off of the assembly line from GM.

My 80E the day I bought it, the one closer the other was for parts for a friend.

Just the fact that you don't know what you're getting unless you plan on rebuilding it...that's all I meant. I'm far from knowledgeable about any of this and am just going off common sense here. I know everyone's 80 comes from a junkyard, it's just how they're rebuilt.

Hey, If you got your builder clean it, paint it, tear the entire unit down, put it all back together, then put a shift kit in it for only 200 bucks, you're one of the lucky ones. Sounds like a lot of work to me, and there's no way in hell the average person can get that done for that little.

In fact, I called every single Junkyard in Kansas City for an 80e to see if I could pick one up cheap and ship it out to Chuck so I could get my $650.00 core charge back....The absolute cheapest junkyard trans I found was $500.00 and was most likely a POS meaning it SHOULD be completely rebuilt by a professional. The cheapest price I found was $1300.00 for a completely re-built 80 - but that was not with high performance replacement parts either + another $600 - $700 if you don't have a core (which I obviously didn't) - then you're up to 1900 or 2k, which is what I paid for my LVL 4 FLT on sale $1950.00

No doubt, 80E core charges around here have been going up. My good friend built mine as he does it for a living so he took care of me. If I were in your shoes I would have done the same. In fact I have suggested to people who have PM'd me to look into FLT's Lvl 4 80E as I think its a good setup. For me it was a no brainer, when your good friend does it and is 5min away from home its not much of a decision.

The only ignorance here is someone reading this thinking they can go to a junkyard and pick up an 80e trans for only 300$ that's not a POS slap it in his truck and drive away without a full or partial rebuild. Oh yeah, then expect them to believe they can get it cleaned, painted, torn down and rebuilt for only another $200. THAT'S IGNORANT pal.

Ok, OK. You can get them from a yard for $300 but you do have to get lucky, craigslist is a good place to find them also. As for the clean, rebuild etc for $200.... Thats one hell of a deal, a shift kit and clutches cost more then that.

Lets stay on point, no use people arguing about it. I think some things were taken the wrong way. Lets get back to what we were talking about.... what was that again? lol

Where did I say that..? I just took your comment, hopefully the wrong way, where you implied that Idaho's POS wasn't worth being in your beautiful truck because it wasn't touched by your trans builder. How do you know it wasn't taken apart, gone through, most everything looked clean, added a shift kit, and reassembled by himself. When you don't have to pay for labor, it brings price waaaay down and it might not have needed a lot of new parts.

Either way, I'm sure your trans will hold up fine. Looks like a fun set up your running. What times are you running at the track?

I didn't mean it like that. All I meant was, I didn't want to put a POS, dirty, greasy, non-cleaned, non-rebuilt trans into my beautiful truck. I didn't mean to insinuate that Idaho's was a POS either, so sorry if it came off that way.

I just bought the truck in November, so I haven't had a chance to take it to the track yet. I'd like to get a baseline run before the Maggie goes in, then another after...would be interesting to know how much faster the Maggie makes it. I'll have to check out when Heartland Park opens up...hopefully soon.
