a roll bar is good to 10.00...that's a "cage" like you're talking about will cert to. the bars out the back like your talking are nothing more than a stiffener as far as certification goes

what i always heard, and did on my 96 was the rear bar have to come off the hoop at a certain degree and weld to frame wherever they meet. with a roofed car/truck a 6 point is good to 9.99 or 10.00 however you look at it. with no front bars (4 point)its good to 11.00 i believe. no matter what it has to have the rear bars either way

actually i think its no rear bars is good to 11.00 or 10.99 you have to have the side bars.

this is just for conversation. last time i voiced my thoughts i got flamed

also on my 96 we tied the rear bars into the c notch plate and frame with guskets. was real strong. truck was stiff after getting it done

i ran a speed glass rear window we cut to fit. for 2 years it never yellowed or got scratched up and i stored it outside. on the highway it would flex with windows down and give a crazy reflection in the rearview mirror lol. it never leaked either

Here's the way I was told by the last track official that escorted my truck back on the trailer with no cage.

No roll bar Good to 11.49

4-point in cab (main hoop and door bars): Same as no roll bar, but may buy leniency at some tracks. However still only good to 11.49.

6-point (same as 4-point w/added bars out the back window): Good to 9.99

Some people count diagonals that run at an angle down from the seat belt bar (across the hoop) to the floor as two additional points. In which case they would call the above a 6-point (instead of 4) and 8-point (instead of 6). I'm not 100%, but I don't think nhra officials count those as "points".

That being said and from what I understand, the "8"-point cage that madman is building adds 2 additional bars that run down from an added halo (bar around the top of the cab) down the a-pillars through the dash to the front mounting point of the door bars. Should cert. to 8.50.

Beyond this point I believe an SFI Spec cage is required based on weight and et's beyond 8.50.

I could be way off on this, so someone correct me if need be.

Madman or Steve, get in here and set the record straight if I don't know what I'm talking about.

New pics coming in a minute. Madman called today and said he cut all the brackets off the rearend and redid them cause he didn't like the way it looked. I thought it looked fine but he's the madman.....................

hmm so i was right. theres a lot into it. the guy who built my 6 point measured where i sat. he side the side bars had to run mid way through your arm on the shoulder to elbow area. also the harsness bar had to be at a certain point.

Madman called today and we were talking about some things and he told me that he redid all the 4-link brackets on the rearend housing. Something about he didn't like the way the first set came out. I must say is looks killer.

We're gettin the rear centered in the truck and the 4-link brackets should be in by the end of today. I'll send some more pictures when all that's done.
