perhaps on a non DOD cam???

The DOD cams are supposed to use the same lifters in all the the cylinders from what I understand. Same lifters and same push rods.

Dod lifters are different....1,4,6,7 have the goofy looking spring loaded lifters the other 4 cylinders have standard gm roller lifters

I have not opened one up myself so I am not familiar with them.

Best I can tell here, they are the same height. It wouldn't make any sense in production to grind them any different as they would have to swap the lobe master on the machine for the different lobes. It would take 2-3 times longer to grind the cam.

Also, all DOD is doing is de-activating the lifter function using oil pressure so the valves stay closed.

It wouldn't run smooth if the other cylinders had different lifts when the lifters were activated.

FYI I added the part number of the cam to the other post.

I can have him check it again, but it doesn't seem like it's any different.

I just called him up and he states you will see a slight variance from lobe to lobe on a DOD cylinder Vs. a non DOD cylinder. Like .005 in lift and the LSA will tighten up by 1/2 a degree or so. But It's hard to say if this is done on purpose or if it's just because they are manually ground. As the grinding stone wear's it will affect the numbers of each lobe.

No 2 lobes will will be exactly the same. You will see a slight difference like .001-.002.

If you look on youtube there are several video's of cams being ground to see the process if you don't already know.

I figured it would be a neglible difference in lift if any noticable difference but have heard of people deleting dod running stock cam and having misfires onthe dod cylinders....

Default L96 teardown....

Tore into the l96 this evening before i left work just to see what kind of damage i had to deal with.....

Left bank pushrods in no particular order.... Didnt pay attention pulling em out but i think the bent one was #7 intake all the right side pushrods were straight

Looks like #3 may have touched a valve

One lifter on its way out on the right bank

Number two piston obviously hit a valve

May be a little bit of valve/piston kissing going on there in 6/8 but not much

Surprisingly the left head looks really clean and no obvious valve damage

Right head not as clean and no obvious valve damage

Other thing i found was cam didnt want to come out and only way it would turn was with a pair of pliers.....thinking it ate a cam bearing ill get it out later this week and check the cam bearings fairly sure its gonna need a set, just hope it didnt spin a cam bearing.....probably what sheared the locator pin off the front of the cam to begin with!!! If all goes well ill send heads out in next couple weeks and see if there are any bent valves..... May have them shaved a lil havent decided yet....
