NOS What would it take?
#1
I have a 2004 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 z71 5.3. Pretty much stock. Only mod's are duals and drop in k&n. I would like to have a supercharger or turbo but can't afford it right now and NOS seem's alot cheaper. I've heard horror stories about people blowing there motor with it and things like that but i'm just curious what would i have to do to my truck to run NOS. What are the pro's and con's of NOS and what kind of numbers would mt truck make on it. Thanks in advance.

Running nitrous on your truck would be quite simple as nitrous company's (sponsons listed on far right hand of screen) have kits specifically for your truck (LS1 based). When a nitrous kit is set up w/ the right safety equipment and precations, it is almost dummy proof. Yes, nitrous does wear down parts faster when being used, but this is only part time as where turbo/super is there full time.
PRO'S for me would be-
there when you want it (better on mpg)
adding more power is as simple as a jet change (maybe tune change as well)
the hustle factor
only CON'S I can think of are
refilling the bottle
rear tires tread life goes to

edit: on a 150rwhp shot you could make around 400rwhp

i put over 90 bottles of nirous through my truck before my lill 5.3 blew up..i wasnt sprayin it when it blew but i wish i had just to make it bigger haha..the only problem i had with it 4 trannys and one rear end..i guess you can count the motor for the excesive wear which supercharger or turbo would do any ways..

You could pick up a new wet kit with accessories and safety items for around $1000, less if you don't get luxuries (bottle opener/heater and ect)...stock injectors and fuel pump are good to a safe 150 wet shot, only thing you need to change is spark plugs (tr6s) and tune (recommended for 125 or more).
Wet vs. dry
IMO, you gotta ask yourself what the future for your truck is and how fast you want to make it, if you plan to heavily mod it after spray go wet, but if this is as about as far as your going to go get, go dry because it's couple hundred cheaper (max for dry is about 125 on stock injector tuned), but if you want bigger power later down the road, I say go wet. But just keep on reading and learning and choose what's best for you.

Thanks for all the info guy's. Hopefully in the near future i will be getting one of these kit's for my truck. I guess the dry shot will be best for me. I don't plan on doing any heavy modding after this. Thanks again.

Why do you say this? Do some researchin on this site and see how many people prefer the wet kit to dry kit. Also you can check out the classifieds and usualy find a used kit pretty cheap. I bought mine used and haven't had any troubles with it...Just food for thought
