Thumbs up Size matters, right?

Hello my fellow GM Brothers. I thought the title might get a few kicks. Here's the deal, I come from the old school of the carbs and iron blocks and am probably gonna pester the hell out of ya'll for a while if you dont mind, while I swap the little 4.8 to its big brother 6.0 LQ9. I dont know too much about these drive by wire, computer based trucks but can still learn a little still.
I work as a instrument/electrical/refrigeration technician at a local chemical plant thats shipping my job to China this year, because they can. I also operate a small air conditioning co. on the side.
I own a 2000 GMC and it has one of those slapper engines in it that has now started using oil and smoking @ 137k miles. I dont think it would of lasted this long if it wasn't for Mobil1 syn. Its had the cold start knock since 20k. Looking forward to talking to some of ya'll and getting some input.

Dirt is that the lq9 you have? I am gonna shoot for about 400-425 rwhp on natural aspiration. I know I will need a diff tranny and chane the gears in the rear end to handle it. What do you think It will take to get those #'s? I know #'s dont mean nothing at the track, but it would be nice to know. I see you are running a 12.78. Thats about where I want to get.
The last engine I built was a 4v 351w in a boat, and before that a 350 chevy for my dirt track car. I have been into atv's lately and the time has come to operate on the GMC, because I dont want to pay the 35-40k for a new one. The top end of my budget right now is around 6k. Hope I can get it done for that.
