Default Newbie here

So grew up in a GMC household, my old man was a GM employee who was lucky enough to be involved in setting up all the machines that produce LS/vortec Motors. So for most of you who’ve got a St. Catharines engine you can thank my father.

I’ve had a big number of trucks over my years of driving S10, S15 Jimmy, 88 Sierra, 04 S10, 03 sierra (handful of mods part out soon 5.3 swapped, 4L65/70E vette trans swapped, e fan conversion, HP tuners tune now the beater truck.) 06 Sierra my newer replacement truck auction buy with records of maintenance from day 1. Currently lifted 4”, Cognito UCA 4.8 it’s nothing special. (See below)

so the 06 will be getting a number of upgrades I have 6.0 (complete rebuild kit), 4L80e (hope to rebuild but is perfectly fine as is) including transfer case. All parts below for the 6.0 build. Looking for a few items stil 2800-3000 torq converter, need CNC 317 heads milled down, headers are on order, seeking cam options as 218/221 116LSA I don’t think will cut it. Just like everyone else, I’m on search for a Supercharger or Turbo package as I’ve put 5 different turbo setups in my summer ride and I think having 2 blown autos just seems like a must have. Other issues I’ve found is the ruby BBK kit was a complete waste of funds. No offence but 20” wheels on a truck? What is this dodge?

Newbie here-epoy84m.jpg
parts for the 06 not including a few item

anyways hope that’s a good enough intro.

Thank you!!

Having some sort of plan is best, even if it’s a scattered array of random bits and pieces with only a vision..... doesn’t sound like a plan now!

Im sure I’ll questions along the way. I know the search function has answered lots already. The head milling, compression adjustments and cam selection still evade my knowledge. This and calculating pushrod length once milling is done. And now I’ve found a charger up for grabs at reasonable price everything will likely change!

Newbie here-nhrq2at.jpg

brought the replacement motor/trans home a few days ago. Noticed a few things after finally getting a good look, 6.0 came with oem oil cooler? I see the lines coming from atop the filter housing but what cooler was used? When ready can I swap over my true cool trans cooler then use the oem trans cooler for oil?

My 4l80e is not stamped “4L80e” like many I’ve seen in the past I’m guessing it’s based on production years?? And anyone looking to build one on the cheap I found govplanet.com has a 4L80e from a Humvee up for grabs for $5.00, looks like it’s got all the pieces and was or is stripped down but I’d think an easy way to build a cheap trans if it’s only $5.00.

And yesterday I finally got in touch with local engine builder (recently moved/bought house in new area) who was an excelllent contact to make. Will hopefully getting to their shop soon with heads looks like 317 milled (correct my number if I’m wrong) 0.003 or is it 0.030 down to change the compression ration and still be safe with oem pistons. I’ll stop in to speak directly with them about cam choices based on on some parts I already have. It seems all the big guys suggest this to have a 216/220 cam I have in hand 218/221 but it seems to have a very short curve. The shop owner said he will need a bit more info an we can decide.

Moving Ng in the right direction now!

Few more pics

front suspension for now congito UCA with RC 4” lift. Feels actually pretty decent the shocks need to go RC isn’t a nice shock at all. (2006)

the inspiration 03 that’s had lots done 5.3 swapped, 4l65e swapped w/vette servo, e fan conversion lots of stuff done but she’s gotten older and the body is going. The motor has 260k km on it and had it not had electrical issues it wud start easy right now batt drains in about 3-6 hours and only starts when jumped

she ain’t pretty, she just looks that way. Has served its time very well and hope one day it can be used in another project. Or sold (2003)

few things a always notice, 1. why when tearing down an LS the drivers head always looks darker? This is 3rd I’ve torn into all show way more discolour in the drivers head. Oh well being built anyways just thought I’d ask.

2. How many differentials will I blow up this year? I’m on my 2nd now since January. I will need to swap gears this year as I’m sure 3.42 wasn’t the best option.

3. Any one here ever convert a H2 4.10 axle over to a 1500 truck? Don’t care it’s 8 bolt, do care it’s electric lock. And with this what would everyone like to see done with it? 4 link? Upgraded 4 link with lower trailing arms and shock relocations? A 3 link or whatever is on the hummer? Deaver leafs, linger shocks flipped rear shackle? I’m going for much much more travel and abilities to tune on the fly (manual adjusters on all corners).

PCV system is in the drivers side head, that's why the color is always darker.

Front or rear diff? The stock G80 rear diffs aren't very strong, they have a purpose but when you abuse them, they always break. A stronger posi unit is always recommended.

Thanks for response. Had issues with a front diff I swapped in which looks like I was sold wrong diff.

As for rear diffs I had a 10 bolt built for my 2003 destroyed a month later entering highway, complete waste, replaced it with low mileage and had 0 issues that truck took a beating. So yes looking to go to 4.10 hummer e-lock rear axle with something cool for suspension TMR suggests a 4link w trailing arms, lots of shops stand behind deaver leafs and relocated shocks.

Now thus got interesting. I’ve picked up a whipple supercharger complete kit (1.7 or 2.3) for the 6.0. Looking for definitive answers for compression, Best compression for running the blower? Looks like I will be at 9.4:1 with CNC heads not milled. Should I mill them? Im guessing a good matched cam to the SC will keep a linear power curve and maintain a steady torque? Please suggest. I’m told it was setup at 12 psi, I likely will buy new pulley and adjust boost down to 8 psi range.
