Hey everyone! I have a 2006 Silverado 1500 Vortec Max 4x4. I took the 6.0 and completely rebuilt it.
Lunati stroker crank
scat rods
mahle pistons
promugnum rocker arms
cromley push rods
ls7 lifters
AFR 210cc heads (we’re already on the truck just had them reworked and new valve guides put in)
comp 54-426-11 cam
cloyes timing chain
melling high volume pump
all arp studs and bolts
a few other things I’m sure I’m forgetting...
Anyway, so I finish the build and ran out of money. So it still has stock truck intake and injectors (ordering 8.1 marines soon). Well we took it for a little test drive and barely got on it and of course second gear blew. So I took the truck to a local tranny shop and paid 2200 for a hardened sunshell, shift kit, corvette servo, bigger band, stg 2 clutch pack and a few other things..Ran decent until I blew the spider gears in the rear end... fixed that issue and a month later the transmission went again... lasted just long enough to get out of warranty (of course) and the shop said the tranny is done for. Clutches were already burned up and planitaries ( don’t think I spelt that right) were done for.
So now I’m looking into buying a Level 3 Performabuilt transmission. Hopefully it holds up. Still need injectors and a tune. Can’t do either until transmission is fixed. Kinda worried about dropping 3k on a 4l70e. Question a do have is what other options for decent price rear ends are out there... because I know I’ll blow those spider gears out again... it’s been never ending with this truck but she’s still my main chick... if you have any suggestions on build feel free to give them. I’m always looking for experienced advice! Thank you guys!

I know. I’ve looked into it hard. But with the truck being 4x4 I would not only need a 4l80 I would also need a transfer case (I know I could use mine but I would definitely rather have the bigger one) Which would be near 2500 right there. Plus better tranny cooler and lines, cross member, drive shafts reworked, tune and the few irrelevant easier little things I would be way over budget. I also just started working in the oil and gas industry and I work in PA but live in FL. So I’m not home long enough to get it all done. I leave for 4-6 weeks and come home for 10-14 days at a time. I don’t know.. this stg 3 4l70 from PerformaBuilt looks really well built and it has a two year warranty and if it’s out of warranty supposedly they only charge 950 to rebuild no matter what’s broke... I would just hate to do the swap with either a junkyard 4l80 or a remaned and just have that blow and spend another 2k to build it.... it’s already cutting into my forced induction money lol
