never had a LS motor need some pointers
okay so i got my little brothers 2001 chevy 1500 extended cab with a 5.3 LM7 that has 246,000 miles ... he got a new truck and i got his old one ... i know this truck has been very well taken care of but i know very little about the "LS motors" because i have a 94 firebird formula with a LT1 as my race car.
well i have heard of people taking junkyard motors and boosting these 5.3 and making good power .... i am wanting to make the truck a little faster but i dont know if with this many miles if i should just drive it as is or if i can have a little fun. the oil psi reads at like 60psi at idle so good pressure there. it runs smooth ... so where to begin?

Whats your goal, your budget, what mods do you think you want?
246k miles isn't that much really, tons of trucks out there with many more than that. Just keep in mind the stock 4L60e isn't super strong nor is the factory G80 locker in the rear end. Both don't like alot of power and if they are worn out, failure will happen sooner.
Headers, intake tune, custom tune, corvette servo, rear gear change (if 2wd) are all good options for just adding a few more horsepower. Past that it gets much deeper with camshaft upgrades or supercharger/turbo. At that point doing all new gaskets/reseal the motor and maybe new cam bearings could be needed with those miles and a new cam.

i am a nitrous guy ... i was thinking about tossing a 150 shot on it
the trans took a dump last year and we put a tahoe pull out in it that had 155k and the rear G80 failed fully locking the tires during turns and scrubbing tires ... so we found a rear axle with the same gears and a open diff.
its going to be a DD but if some joker wants some a little more get up and go would be nice
