Question hey guys. i need some advice.

hey. i have an 06 gmc sierra 5.3 x-cab 2wd. i live in a red neck town in texas that pretty much only has diesels that will race. Im in college so i dont have alot of money. My friend has a yank 3600 still in the box and said he would sell it to me for 300$ and i was wondering if that was too much for my truck. i already have my free mods and a hypertech. my truck also has 20's and true duals. i dont really have any trouble with most of the diesels but some of them can launch pretty good. i can usually stall my truck up to about 1800 or 2000 but it still lugs untill about 20. ive never taken my truck to the track, its pretty much only red light to red light. i just need some more power low end so i can launch better. i want to see a cam in my trucks future but not a really big one. someone said maybe a z06 b/c with the 3600 stall it would put my truck right there in the power band for that cam. but i dont know. any advice would be greatly appreciated. plz help guys. damn the black smoking rednecks. jordan

for right now, i think it would be too big but with a cam later on, it will probably work out as you wish. at $300, real good buy. good luck with your project.

Welcome to the forum. A 3600rpm stall is a bit high but would allow for a large cam. It all depends on you and how you drive. Yanks run pretty tight.
A Z06 cam is too small for that stall.
Save the $ add a couple hundred more and get a n20 kit. No more smoking diesels!

That sounds like a good bet, and yes a 3600 stall is too much for a Z06 cam.

hey thanks guys. are any of yall from somewhere near central texas. i would really like to see some of the trucks yall drive and get some advice cuz i learn better actually seeing what yall are talking about. i ordered pacesetter lt's, an underdrive pulley, 160 thermostat, and transmission cooler which they should be in sometime. also i was wondering what kind of intake i should get. ive looked and some are around 400. is there any cheaper options i could go with and still get the same performance as the expensive intakes. any ways gotta go to class guys thanks

Not from Texas here but there are many that are from Texas. As to the intake, do a search and you will find allot of different opinions on what people think. Might want to consider a custom tune or some tuning software to support the mods you are planning. A tune will give you better gains then a Cold air intake.

what size cam should i get. i dont want it to be a monster with a ton of lope cuz im really kinda tryin to keep all my mods so my parents wont know . i know that sounds gay but still. is there any other alternatives besides the laughin gas. im tryin to get some pics on here but everytime i put pics on anything there huge and i dont know how to resize them. any one got some help on that. also there is a new guy in town that has a 07 4x4 4 door hemi with 35's and prolly a 4 or 6 inch lift and muff back exhaust. he told me he wanted to race for my system if he won and 1500 cash if i beat him. has any one raced a truck like that or seen 1 cuz i really dont want to loose my system.. what are my odds..? any ways off to class again. adios. boys
