Default Zo6 Cam in a 5.3L

I have an 02 ext cab short bed with cold air intake, throttle body spacer, crane plug wires, bocsh plugs, ASP underdrive pulleys, dynomax cat back, edelbrock headers, HP tuners, and its a 3.73 posi rear end. I'm considering the Zo6 cam kit from scoggin-dickey. It comes with the springs pushrods retainers and gaskets. If I put that cam in would I be able to run the stock converter? And what kind of gains could i expect. Right now i'm running around 10.4 in the 1/8 mile, with a 2.4 60ft. Any help would be appreciated.

mod-o is right about the daily driveability with that cam, but personally after all of my cam decisions and changes I'd say have one ground for your application specifically. especially if you plan on sticking with the stock converter. it may be a good deal now but if it's not what you really like then you won't be too pleased in the long run.

Do you plan on doing a converter in the near future?

I'm right now thinking about a B&M Torquemaster with an 1800 stall. I want NA power but at the same time this is my one and only vehicle. I also thinking about waiting on the cam and just putting valve springs and 1.85 rockers.

why 1800 stall?? thats a whopping 1-200 RPM over stock.. why not go up to something in the neighboorhood of 24-2600 if you are wanting to stay pretty mild with it... I'd recommend a 212/218 if you are looking to buy one already made off the shelf. Call up Comp. they can match one up for whatever you want it to do... and that size converter will be nice with that cam.

edit... dont bother with buying rockers.. just get a cam with more lift and better springs... those things are HUGE wastes of cash IMO unless you are making some kind of stupid amount of power with some weird valvetrain angles...

you might be better off with the 01 Z06 cam. Especially if you are considering the rockers.

My goal with the cam is to get my truck into the 9's in the 1/8th mile. Right now I'm running 10.4, but theres still more to be had with my current tune. So I'm looking to get about 35ish Horsepower out of it. Also I'm currently getting nearly 22 MPG on the highway so I don't really want to hurt that too bad. Is there any apecific off the shelf cam you guys would recomend? Thanks for the help.

My opinion - and only my opinion - willing to get shot for what I'm saying, but that Z06 cam is going to behave just like the stock Camaro cam until about 4,000rpm. In a truck, there's almost no reason to worry with it if its going to be your only mod. Silver-mod-o and Eye-P are right where I think you should go. I had a LS1 Hotcam (219/228 and .525/.525 lift on 112) and liked it and man did it want to snarl and growl. In fact, I went with a pretty big cam in comparison and only gained about 10rwhp (now have 232/240 and .595/.608 on 114) - that's about as big as I could go cause I would probably need to flycut the pistons if I had gone with the same cam on a 112).

With the 1.85 rockers you've got - this might be something you could consider...

What do you guys think?

thats a little more like it .... maybe look into a little more lift though... for that much duration you'll want more lift I think...

if you are wanting something healtier but wont sacrifice your driveability check out thunder racing's TR220 cam... a lot of people have had very good results out of this cam but you'll definitely want to run a bigger converter.. something around 3000
