Was that an intake valve or exhaust?

same thing happened here....totally stock engine '07 suburban with 54k, tip of the intake valve stem broke off at the retainer groove and dropped the intake valve....you see the results.

mine was the intake valve. i tore the motor down monday night and took a gander.

head looked decent, piston had rings all over the top of it where the valve was hitting it.

As a new member, I've been doing my homework and reading as much as I can on the site, and I was leaning towards a set of ls6 springs, after seeing (reading) this, should I reconsider?

Seems like a lot of members here are running them without any problem, and this breakage may have been a casting issue, possibly.

Just curious...

Judging by his picture a stiffer valve spring would have only broken it sooner. Many over the years have picked the 918's as the spring of choice and many have been bitten by that. The LS6 springs seem to be reliable and if your lift isn't very big it's a good choice in my opinion.

what do the other pistons look like? ive seen a few instances where GM just had a weak valve. chances are valve float. a lesson to be learned for most dont skimp out on springs. and realize a stock part is only what it is and a stock part. a LS6 spring is nothing more then a stock part!!!!!!!!!
