Front cover for distributor and pointer for timing marks. Wouldn't do that with fuel injection. The bores are huge.

KY covered it along with how far the windage tray is spaced out from the mains means long stroke crank, so long stroke crank with big bores equals probably a motor in the 440+ range if I had to guess.

My guess would be generally older people have the kind of money to spend on stuff like this and generally older people are more comfortable with what they know and generally they know carbs.

I think by the shape of the pistons thsat it is a diesel.
