I think that this video is illustrating valve spring harmonics. The spring on the left has fewer turns and does not resonate (vibrate sympathetically) at the speeds of 500 to 3,000 cycles per minute (which would be half of a crank speed of 1,000 to 6,000 RPM's. The physics in valve spring design have to be very complex for what appears to be a very simple device on the surface. I know that Comp Cams has a specialist on their staff, Billy Godbold, who has a degree in physics and concentrates on the dynamic forces involved in valve train design (cam lobes, springs, etc.). His job is not to design the cam specs but to research all the things that go into lobe ramp rates, beehive springs, and the like.
