The Ultimate Sleeper...

Hi guys, new to the forum. I currently have an 07 Silverado classic extended cab with a 4.8L. So far I have put 3:73 gears and have done some computer tuning. What I have planned for the truck is to have some power under the hood but keep it looking stock. Stock air box, stock exhaust, wheels, and so on.
I have a LQ4 in my garage with the heads off. I have a set of 243 heads on the bench. I have some money saved up. I was thinking about a TS 224R cam and porting the heads. Also was thinking about getting the factory 6.0L exhaust that seems to be much bigger. Going to go with about 2600 stall.
So guys, what are your suggestions? Do you think porting the heads is going overboard? I like the fact that I can jump in my truck and drive a 3 hour drive down the highway. I would like to keep that. But I want to have some killer low end power and be able to lay the smack down on mustangs at the light. Wont be drag racing at the track much, but will use my truck to tow the vette to the track. I don't mind having to tune the truck on the dyno. I also don't mind hearing the cam in the exhaust a bit. Maybe in the future I would thrown on some long tubes, but not right now. Anybody been down this road? Thanks guys! Hope I posted this in the right place!
Cheers!

The 224R cam is single pattern and is more suitable for something with headers and an unrestricted exhaust system. If primarily staying with stock manifolds and a semi-stealthy exhaust, you'll want something with a decent split. (8+ degrees in my experience) I don't see any issues with porting the heads, as long as you don't go nuts. (Huge valves and ports)
My previous truck that was wrecked last year had an LQ4 with a TQ/manifold cam. Had a slight lope, made excellent low end grunt, and was pleasant to drive daily.

I ran a revised version of the TBSS cam, 202/216 @ .050, .525 lift, 112 LSA. I would suggest something more like a 210/220 or something similar. Just remember, longer duration and higher lift will shift the lowerband higher - requiring a looser converter and more gear.

What kind of power were u putting out? Track times? I think I want something a little more aggressive than a 210/220. I could always degree the cam accordingly to bring the power band back down...

unless you have a 4x4, I doubt the traction of a stock looking truck will be enough to touch a mustang much less the new 5.0. fast is relative, and actual fast people don't have a stock looking truck under the hood (what truck doesn't atleast have a CAI)...besides, the secret is out when you hear a loping TSP224
what about a rear mount turbo that sneeks piping through your factory air box? smaller cam hides the lope and a turbo would make more power.

If you want sneaky, get a low-mount turbo. You can have the wastegate vented into the exhaust to keep it quiet under normal driving but people will hear a wategate when you get on it.
As for a cam, you can ask for a smooth idle cam but it will still pack a punch.
I still have the stock airbox but the Whipple is dead giveaway when you pop the hood. What people don't see is it's a .040 6.0. lol...

Sounds like you have conflicting ideas... Aggressive and sleeper don't go together. And more aggressive won't have killer low end, it will be soft with only 3.73s and a 2600 stall.
