Default Tuning Question

Told my local tuner about tuning my 2000 silverado for a 2002 so I can hopefully get rid of my false knock issue. He is wondering does the operating system accept it when you put in the 2002 information or is there a trick to it because he said if you force it you could fry the pcm. Also if i was to get a 2002 pcm and put it in there will it go in with no problems and all of the pins match up? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

the pins will match, get the 02 PCM and get it tuned with your VIN.
