Default Thrust bearing toast??

Pulled the 6.0 and noticed the balancer was not seated all the way, then pulled on the crank and it moves in and out freely a good amount. Have not pulled the bottom apart yet but was curious what others might think.

If the crank moves forward and backwards it must be bad. Is this the engine in the pic? How many miles on it? Are you making a lot of power where you could have balloon'd the torque converter?

Yes it is engine in my sig. Probly 15-20k on motor. Ran fine. Never had a good setup to make any real power so i seriously doubt it ever got close to balooning the convertor.

Dont have a good way to measure the play at the house. Got the pan off tonight and got a look it it. The rear of the bearing seems to be where it was rubbing, the front counterweight rubbed the front maincap some.

I just had a lq4 do the same thing, were you getting crazy amounts of timing pulled out? my truck never made any noise, just was sluggish from the timing being pulled but it rubbed the block a good amount.

I remember your thread, were you able to fix the motor? For quite some time it felt to me that it was getting more and more sluggish but i was never able to get back to the tuner and see.

I still have the motor and it is still usable just needs a new crank, but i would not trust it to hold boost. Im going to just get a junk yard 5.3 now.

Are you going to pull your crank soon? I bet it rubbed a little more inside the motor then you can see right now.

good luck man, its really disappointing when this stuff happens, but its a big relief to find the problem.

I didnt see very much damage but the crank is still in. Im gonna take it to the machine shop early next week and let them look at it(they built it) and if its still ok throw all new bearing on the rods, mains, and of coarse thrust. Fingers crossed!
