Default Thoughts on a cam

Well I am looking into two different cams for my 5.3. The ones I am looking at are the Patriot Performance 225/229 or Lunati 222/230. Have any of you used the Lunati. I have heard a lot of good things about the PP and it's around 75 bucks cheaper.

Iv seen one truck run with the pp cam and have heard of a few others and its got vary lazy lobes, the .001 dur is huge and bleeds off compression and kills the bottem end, and its got a 114 lsa, id steer away from that one. I ran a lunati cam and it was a fair cam and alright power but the comp xer cam does better. Id go comp 224r or eps 222-226 they have the strongest lobes..

What is done to the truck? Without the supporting mods and a converter, both will probably be pretty soft down low. Remember with the 5.3L motor, you can't get as aggressive as all the guys putting cams in the cars. The added weight makes the bottom end TQ loss a LOT more noticeable.

The engine and tranny are still in the build process. The motor will be a stock bottom end. Upgrades will include a set of 243/799 heads, double roller timing chain, 1.7 rockers, springs to match the cam and radix SC. The tranny will be a 4L80E with a 2800 stall. The rear end has 3:73, Eaton posi. The truck will not be a drag truck. Just a street truck with an occasional auto cross.

Z06 is a good boost cam, as is the Vinci Trucker (216/224 .551/.551 115)...Roger (AKLowriderZ71) runs the Trucker with a Maggie on a 5.3 and is very happy with it. I believe that he has the Crane 1.8 gold rockers also.
