That is just not true at all. The LS engines can esily handle 500 hp with stock internals. I think someone here went 800 hp on stock internals for a LONG time.

Within certain parameters, 500hp is 500hp
If you hit it with a 250shot that is going to put allot of stress on the engine all at once. The SC will not be as dramatic and there are plenty of 500rwhp Magnuson supercharged cars and trucks running around for years on a stock block.....your transmission will not hold but thats another story.

You are not going to hit anywhere close to 500 NA, not street-able in my opinion. There is a ton of info on this site about this very subject, take your time, read all of it before you do any mods.

Peace.

500FWHP out of a 5.3L shouldn't be too hard to achieve. 500RWHP is going to cost alot and it won't be streetable. You either need to start with more cubes or add boost. Only boost or nitrous can be a substitute for cubic inches.

trever1t is still on a 5.3L motor, look in his sig. he made 566hp and 613 tq. 500 is not stretching too far out. you ARE going to need boost to do it. someone correct me if im wrong but these stock internals will hold upwards of 8-10 lbs of boost.

As long as you don't get greedy with the timing or run it lean a 5.3L will take 10psi for quite a long time. They are extremely tough, but don't take well to tuning mistakes.

How does a turbo compare to a supercharger? Is one better than the other? Can you expect similar horespower gains? I've also heard of a twin turbo setup as well.

Boost to boost a turbo will make more power than a supercharger. A turbo can be alot more work to keep things working properly. It is pretty rare to see someone have a turbo be a bolt on and forget it type of deal. A supercharger can be a bolt on and go depending on what you buy. A Magnacharger is your best bolt on and forget it big power maker. A TVS1900 is a very good match to the 5.3L and if you can afford it I'd say it's the best choice out there right now. The centrifugals are around the same price or a little less, but with all of the plumbing that comes with them they can be a mess to install and maintain. For someone new to the market, go with a TVS1900 if you can afford it and a mild cam. You'll be at 500RWHP without much trouble at all with excellent drivability.
