Default sonic test a 6.0????

I'm trying to learn all I can before I jump into my 6.0 build. One item (there's many) is weather to sonic test the 2002 6.0 motor before boring it .030 over. Problem is my local machine shops don't have it, prob can get it done out of town but it's a pia. So whats the consensus, is it vital?

You'll be alright going .030" over bore. No need to sonic check. Now if your were to go .065" over you might want to have it checked.

Some of the shops around here charge about $150.00 for that work.

That's ridiculous! Go somewhere else. Are you sure that's just for a light bore and hone? They might have of quoted you sonic testing, align honing and block cleaning too in that price.

I think our local shop gets 175.00 to bore and hone with a torque plate but he has to buy a new plate for the 4.00 ls blocks so he says he might charge a little more.

.007'' would only be a hone job. We bore all our engines to .005'' under finished diameter, then plate hone to size. Most shops bore to within .002-.003 to cut back on the honeing. That may be why they quoted you the high price.

i found another place that will do it for 120 but he has never done a ls1 block. i have read that you could use a ford small block torque plate and he does have one of those. but like i said he has never done a ls1 before. thats the problem around here everybody still does the sbc and sbf no new stuff really.
