I wonder if this is common for the early blocks? I've heard that some blocks don't test well enough for .030 overbore, could it be those?
To answer 4.8T, tell your machine shop that a torque plate is 500. bucks for LS motors up to 4.00 bore or so. You use the stock bolts until they wear out and a used head gasket. Tell him the future is here now, these motors are comming, it's time . Don't forget to warn him about any liquids in the head bolt holes, if he has to replace a couple of blocks that might turn him off to the LS.

yeah i told him to use the ford plate he said ok. but i'm not sure if i want to be the first ls1 guy he does. i mean really it should just be a good hone job but how good is he at that? is the finish hone old school or does he do it like the "up to date" guys do it? what are some good questions to ask him? to make sure he knows whats going on.
