Chose a random piston for cleanup (#5). It is the middle one in this pic. Looking at the pattern of the white deposits and the detonation pattern, I would say it was occurring after the carbon buildup, not sure about prior. This one happened to have one of the erratic injectors.

Also note that the extension of the carbon down the lands varies with each cylinder. Some have little to none, some 1st land only, and some 2 lands.

Couple more. These did not have the white deposits, just carbon.

Most tops look a little bluish in the center. #8 looks hammered. See posts #54 and #58 for closeups of #8 and #1.

Well, pitted if I lean into the darkened areas with a brass wire wheel. Not that the carbon was difficult to remove.

Wondering if this is old or recent piston damage, considering that it was under the carbon, I have not seen any KR in boost in recent logs, and the tendency has been more for it to be rich rather than lean in boost? If recent, wouldn't it have cleaned off the piston tops in these areas. The LS1 style knock sensors screwed into the sides of the block do occasionally pick up some knock at part throttle.
