#'s to expect out of a built 6.0 and 408

Default #'s to expect out of a built 6.0 and 408

Ok, I got my 6.0, but now I need some help deciding on what to do with it.

My options:

Build the 6.0

-this would require it to be bored over .030
-Forged Rods
-Forged pistons
-ARP rod bolts and studs
-Heads
-Cam and corresponding components
-Possible ls6 intake
-200 shot

Stroke it to 408

-all of the above mods

....plus...

-forged 4.00 stroke crank
-Mabye swap n2o for a gt67 or 70



...Is that all that I would have to change to make it into a 408?

Or are there any things I am leaving out?

Also, what #'s would I expect to see out of both engines?

Mabye an ET for my heavy pig too?(she actually weighed in at about 4980 on truck scales w/o me in it)

I dunno about HP but when i pop the motor, ill be goin with a 6.0 and boring it .030, forged pistons, ARP bolts and maybe a set of heads and deffinately a cam and being done with it. the internals on these motors are pretty strong and the weak link is the rod bolts. Ill be goin with this setup cuz im on a budget. Without the gas im thinking like 400+ hitting the wheels. Good luck.

Ya I figured that if I am already going that far into it I might as well stroke it. I am kinda hoping for 450+ to the wheels N/A.

No need for forged rods on the 6L build. Ill let you know next weekend what my truck runs on a slipping trans with the 418 in it. My truck weighs in at ~5500 on the scales cause of my toolbox and system. I may do a bit of weight reduction but Im lazy

Haha right on dude. I was going to do the forged rods because I will deffinatly be very hard on it all the time and I want to make sure nothing will break I have thrown a rod in my old truck(but it was an 89 w/ rebuilt 350) and even tho the gen 3's are supposed to be stronger I dont want to chance it. I went thru 3 motors in my old truck and I owned it for 2.5 years and put about 20k on it. Never had any tranny problems i think it had a th350.]

I pretty sure I'll build a 408 though

I would deffinately reccommend changing rods... I have seen many stock rods broken and the crapy crack rod design doesnt help matters. 408's we have done depending on how they are set up usually made between 400-440 at the wheels through autos 7.5 10 bolts on f-body's. I would probably expect about 10-20 less on the trucks factoring in an 8.5 10 bolt and maybe those w/ 2 piece drive shafts and even more loss with 4l80s.

Rods are cheap... Do the rods Also do some ARP studs and fasteners all around.

For a 6L build you dont need damn rods there are plenty of motors running stock rods that are doing just fine with 600+hp. Throw rod bolts in and call it done. If you build a 408 then well obviously you will have all forged stuff.

ya I will do a 408...might as well if im already diggin that far into her....an I want at least 450 to the wheels n/a.

You will need a larger cam than what I have, lts, ditch the truck intake, and a good set of heads for sure. Its not as easy as you think. Hope you have a LARGE piggy bank my build smashed mine all to hell.
