So these rods came out of a 6.0 that ended up whipping out a thrust bearing due to not having an anti-ballooning converter. If you look at the sides it looks as tho some of the coating on the rods are missing. Should this be of concern or nothing to worry about?
As far as I know, rods aren't coated in these engines. They are raw, and they can bump each other, so some marking even in a perfect motor is normal. Your pics seem to be of the bearings, and those certainly need replacement
My concern is that a thrusted crank can easily tweak rods and lead to weird bearing wear, oil pressure issues and of course; rod interference if they bent enough
I'd have a shop check them for flatness and squareness (perpendicularity) of the big end. I don't know what the spec is (and I'll get flamed for what I'm about to say) but if they are out of square more than the maximum bearing clearance: I wouldn't run them. LS rods are cheap enough to not be worth the risk
Well I feel more like an idiot for being in such a rush to take the pics to ask for help, that I didn't notice the bearings still being on there. haha I appreciate the info arthursc2!
