I don't believe it, it happened because of either coil bind on the valve spring OR piston to valve contact from the valves floating or RPM's that were too high. Another cause would be the valve spring retainer hitting the valve guide while the cam was pushing it open. This is the only way this could have happened.

Which Head castings??? and what year motor are they from??? I heard there was a few of these defective castings out there that came apart like that...

same thing happened to my ported 317 castings. within 3 weeks I lost the intake on #1 and #7. Site sponsor warranteed the one head. Then approx 2 yrs later i lost the #8 intake. I mic'd the piece that came off of #7 at .027". I think that might have been the problem. I'm now running AFR's. I also noticed the ported 317's i bought are now coming with a smaller intake runner than they were originally selling. hmmmm???

I've seen this with some over ported heads in the past. Never seen a stock casting do it though...........
What was the cam and lifter combination on this setup?
