My setup developed a tick after about a month, and I attributed it to too long of pushrods. LS7 lifters are .060" longer than their LS1 counterparts, so you'll need corresponding pushrods to account for it. LS7 lifters like a little more preload, so 7.350" is just right. I used Comp Cams part # 7637-16 from Summit. Also my list is for a setup with the older 3 bolt cams. Let me know if you have any more questions.

What is the purpose of the timing chain tensioner? Do our engines already have on? (I also have an LY5 equipped silvy that' i'm going to swap cams in)

You will need the LS2 dampener. GM part number 12588670. It helps keep the slack out of the chain.

Ok great, thanks. I'm assuming the oil pump will need to come off to install the dampener?

Also, do you know the torque specs for the head bolts and rocker arm bolts?

That's the first time I've seen that ls1howto site and it's really informative.

what are you guys using to compress the valve springs? would anything that works on an LS1/LS6 head work on a gen IV 5.3 as well? I've seen the More perf. one that TR sells, the crane one that is hard to find as well as some LSM racing ones that are a bit more expensive.

And what's a good tool to use to lock the flywheel when taking off the crank pulley? will any universal flywheel lock work on a 65e tranny?

sorry for all the banal questions, but this new engine tech has me a bit intimidated.

ottawa canada; takes about 2 weeks to get anything from the states, so i'm trying to cover all bases before tearing into the engine.

I think the thread was in the GM engine section, the OP had a tahoe right? Thing is i'm confident with the cam swap itself, it's just all the small things i'm worried about. Maybe I'm overthinking things before even getting started, cause it seems pretty straightforward on paper anyways.

I used a pneumatic spring compressor....looks pretty much like a giant c clamp that pushes against the face of the valve and the top of the spring. Swapped all springs in like 5 minutes
