replacing camshaft

definitely getting rid of the DOD. I don't plan to push it past 6500, but running the risk of collapsed lifters isn't worth it. i'll wait on the pushrods for now, just going to get a length checker and get the proper rods. this is what i've got on my parts list...
ls7 lifters
ls2 lifter trays
ls2 valley cover
corvette cam gear (3 bolt)
cam gear bolts
cam replacement kit (all kinds of gaskets and seals)
mls head gaskets
comp pushrod length checker
crank pulley bolt
head bolt kit
ls1 timing chain tensioner
i've definitely done a lot of homework on this, but any recommendations are welcome.

Pushrods are stock length 7.400" long. I used off-the-shelf CompCams pushrods with mine. I changed the camshaft (CompCams single bolt core), and valve springs (CompCams 26918) for my 5.3 truck. I maintained the DoD.
Cool. I did see an article on removing DOD from a Pontiac G8 for a cam swap, but the article was pretty short.
So I'll probably go with LS7 lifters and that cam installation kit from LPE. Do I need a lifter-specific lifter retainer, like from an LS7? And what is the consensus on needing shorter pushrods...yes or no?

DOD?? is this the same as AFM?? If so, I'm actually trying to accomplish the same thing.... but here's my setup;
CAI, PCMFORLESS Tune, 2800 Stall, and just ordered the comp 918 springs, TR224 CAM, PUSHRODS 7.4 Hardened, Underdrive pulleys, 160* Tstat, and My truck has the AFM...
I'm assuming i will need the same items???

Keeping the DOD-AFM
[I believe you mentioned that you got rid of the DOD later in the thread. Would it be safe to say a person could keep the AFM as long as we didn't take it to the track or street race the truck.? I just want an extra 50hp or so to help move this 5k+lb truck. Either way you would have used the same cam right..? I got whooped the other day by a about a '04 4wd 2500hd diesel worktruck trying to get a round a fool whom forgot where the gas pedal was... I thought driving this nice '07 GMC SLT was fun but my wife just got the 2010 Camaro V6 and that 6 banger has become the favorite...it just can't pull the boat..
QUOTE=Tootall;4334849]if you're keeping the DOD
cam phaser limiter kit
4 trigger LS7 cam sprocket (cam gear only, not crank)
3 bolts for the cam gear
if you're getting rid of the DOD
new lifters
new LS2 valley cover
new head bolts
new head gaskets

3 bolts for cam gear[/QUOTE]

I wouldn't dare post a video it until it was something good enough to post a video about lol. I will say this, though...when I went from 245/70R17 wheels and tires with just an ECM tune to the 275/55R20 setup, I pretty much lost all ability to burn rubber. With the cam and converter, I can lay rubber for about 10 feet now. Nothing too impressive, but definitely a noticeable power increase.
