Opinions please, what mpg for 370's or 408's?

A 370 is able to make tons of power with a few benefits. No need for ~$1000+or- on a new crank, less potential for oil consumption (important on DD), reduced piston speed allows for more RPM, possibly better fuel economy? I don't know the how much difference in MPG you could expect between a 370 and 408, I could see both managing 15mpg (depending on vehicle) if the compression is above 9:1 and the cam is resonable.

Just a shot in the dark here but I would imagine a 408 would get better mpg?? My thinking is if you drive it conservatively when not racing then low end Torque of a stroker 408 would do wonders for the stop and go grind of DD'ing? I'm probably missing something to this equation though.

JFYI...I get 14-15 mpg with my T370 so I'm not complaining. Hopefully Thunder will chime in with what he was getting with his T408.

from what i have read on here in the past years, a 370 is the way to go for DD... thats what i would do for a turbo DD setup.....

I went with a 370, though if I had the money I would have went 408.. Stoichiometric hit it on the head, Less oil consuption and smaller displacment= to big benifits for a DD...

What compression are you thinking?

I get 11.5 mpg on my 402 DD and beating the hell out of it. On the highway 16.5 is the best I have gotten at 80 mph. It's not great but my brothers VMAX is not much better with less power.

If you are not planning on a bigger turbo, don't do a 408. That 67 will choke on a 408.

Even so, I'd do the 370 for a dd. I ran my 408 as a DD for years with no real issues except crappy gas mileage -- I was getting 10mpg around town but my CR is pretty low.

Wow, just when I thought no interest. Thanks for all the replies gentlemen! I did some desktop drag simulations last night and the 370 with the 4.10's performed as well or better than the 408 with 3.42's. I am pretty sure that I would want to reinstall the 3.42's with the 408 due to piston speed per mile so as to keep mpg acceptable. I would like to be frugal without shooting myself in the foot, but I figure I will be spend about $3900 a year on gas roughly so it has to be a consideration. With that said, and the fact that I would really need to ditch the 67 if I choose the 408, I am really leaning towards the 370. Again, thanks for all the input from a bunch of great guys...I have much repect for your opinions! BTW, this is a tax right-off.

Oh, compression? 9-9.5 with 317's. Want the most torque out of the hole off boost and still run 10lbs on 93. I put my deposit up tommorrow. Thoughts?

370 @ 9.5:1 gets my vote. Unless you need a bigger right off
