I tried the simple math method and the valves were staying open. You really should measure them. There is to many variables when changing heads. Valve stem lengths, deck thickness, etc. If he wasn't changing heads I would say 7.35-7.37 would be close enough.

Thats just it man you arent listening to people who have DONE this stuff. Getting the heads milled will take a day and they are back to you. You are going to spend 100 bucks on bolts, gaskets and coolant, and shop supplies. Get them milled then throw them on and be done with it. Im sure one of the sponsors could get oyu the correct pushrods in 2-3 days. Listen to everyone man quit being so hard headed it will only cost oyu more money in the end

i guess another thing is that i dont have the money to pay for them to get milled and p&ped right now. can anyone give me a decent price estimate for how much it would cost to mill them .030 over? and port and polish? i would do it if it wasnt that expensive. i heard someone talkin about jareds machining or something in houston that does good work? i know MTI and HPE are gonna charge me load for the machining. i just dont want to run for a long time while im saving money with the leaky valves, or have the plug that isnt seated blow out of the hole. if the price is decent i would get the new ones machined before installing them

In your situation the best bang for the buck is to mill them then later on when you go 6L spend the $$$ and get a GOOD set of heads, IMO dont waste your money on porting the gains will be marginal and cost alot. To get the heads milled oyu are looking at ~100bucks. When I first got on here I didnt listen and I wasted alot of money I dont want to see you do the same thing

Call a local machine shop on pricing. What it costs here is not exactly what its going to cost there.

Here, a good p&p (and it isn't CNC) is about the same as a set of CNC p&p'd aftermarket heads.

Call Richard at WCCH. He's the expert on this stuff and can sell you the heads you need anyway

We upgrade to 1.950"/1.570" stainless valves, Stage 1 port and polish, valve job, surface mill (.030"), wash and assemble for $700.00. HP valve springs will add $160.00. It usually takes 5-7 days to turn them around. Also don't forget to add the cost of shipping (probably $40-$50).
Feel free to call us with any questions.

1slow, i like you idea, just get them milled for the hgih compression (will that net me some more power and performance?) and then when i get the 6.0 sometime ill pay the big bucks for a set of fancy dancy heads.

richard, how much would it cost me to ship the bare castings over to you, have them milled .030 over and then just ship the bard castings back? the only component from the new heads im going to be using is the valves. the rest ill be swapping in from my old heads

We charge $75.00 to mill the heads. Honestly, this is something that a local shop could do in a day or two and you'll save the cost and time of shipping. Check locally first.

what kind of performance gains will i see from milling the heads? cylinder heads are something that i have not delved into or learned much about cuz ive never done anything with them...i know it will increase the comression but what kind of increase can i see from doing that?

Edit: currently i am running with 7.40" pushrods. what sized pushrods should i use when i get the heads milled? i assume i will have to replace the ones i have for other ones...? with my set up right now, with just surface milling, i wont have to replace anything else in my valvetrain yet will it?
