Your confused You mill the head surface to raise the compression. I wouldn't go .050 because the ptv clearance is tight depending on the cam you go with. .030 is probably enough. But your gonna need new push rods.
The valve size has nothing to do with milling them. Don't go any bigger than a 2.00" intake valve because it's shrouded by the cylinder wall on the 5.3

If you mill the heads any amount your probably going to need push-rods. I would think .010 and more. More than likely you have 7.40 now and they probably make a little noise now. I have 7.30 or 7.35 in my motor now I can't remember. I am running an MTI C2 cam though.

Just so you know lifters aren't in your heads but you do have to take them off to change them.

I agree. Your money is best spent modding your new heads instead of trying to fix broken old ones.

It's simple math guys, you take .030 off the heads, you need .030 shorter push rods. If you have 7.4 rods now, you will need 7.370 rod if you shave the heads .030.

i understand its cheaper that way but the thing is the truck is losing alot of oil right now due to my crappy valves in my current heads and i cant really afford to keep those on during the machining process and drive around drinkin oil. nor can i afford to let my DD sit in a shop for a few weeks. so as it is not as economical to replace the stock heads with the new ones, repair and machine the old ones, then switch again, everytime swapping valves, springs, rockers etc back and forth it is pretty much my only option

How long will it take to machine the new heads?
