I also got a good recommendation for someone local if I need to. I'd rather not wait for transit time to ship it somewhere. I think the spare vehicle that I've been driving is going to be sold here in the next week or so. The other thing I was wondering is if my oil drain is causing problems. When we tapped the pan we did it below oil level, and I'm wondering if that's causing enough restriction in the drain to push oil past the turbo seals.

Well, a new engine will have more blow-by and cause the crankcase to pressurize a little more that can cause oil draining from the turbo to be slower. That or just your crankcase isn't vented properly. I'd give it the break in miles at least and see what happens.
Your the one driving it and can see, hear and smell more than we can so don't always trust communication on a keyboard over your own good judgement.

The smoking doesn't have the same characteristics that it did with the old engine, which is good news. I'll keep an eye on it and check my PCV lines and everything.

After reading this, Ima definitely say move that bung to above the oil level.

I've had the issue before with filling the turbo over the seals and it would typically whisp a little smoke and you could smell it when idling at a stop light, etc. I live on a hill and depending whether I parked "up" or "down" would change how it smoked -- it was evidently just barely high enough to spill over on a hill

Hell yeah! Why do you think I was so excited when she said she would help? That was one of the best things ever

I bought a new pan from Tootall, I'm going to adjust my bung hole and see what happens
