Default My Proposed SS Build

Hey, yall. Going to build a friends 04 ss truck. He wants the cam to sound very noticeable, I want it to run very good. Thinking about TSP 228r 112, their PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 heads which should give an extra point of compression. Probably spring for some long tubes since it has shorties on it now. Probably a Yank converter also and a mail order tune. How this sound?

Great besides the mail order tune part. A in person custom dyno tune are better, but if that is not an option where you live then a mail order is the next best thing.

What size stall are you planning to run?

That cam will sound and perform nicely in a 6.0. Those heads will match up nicely

While that's true 80% of the time. I know tuners that I would rather take a mail order from, then go down to most local shop's. The guy I use had a fella that got a mail order from him, go down and get a "proper" dyno tune from a shop in LA. His car picked up 15hp. But was 3/4's of a second slower in the 1/4 consistently. He called my guy back and wanted him to change it back ASAP!!!

Not exactly sure what the minimum stall necessary is to be streetable but that's what we want. Don't want to go overboard. He'd like to be able to do a little light towing if possible. It would be nice to haul his bike to the strip with this truck.

My other question is head gaskets. I see lots of choices and lots of price difference. Is it pretty much user preference or is one that much better than the other. Not planning on pressurizing this thing. Thanks for your responses.

Default My 2003 SS 13.7 with a crap light

stock iron shortblock 6.0
unported 243's with springs and yellow terra rockers
Ls2 pump and timing set
48 pound injectors
stock intake
lingenfelter blower grind cam with like 224/248 & .610 on a 114 ?
pacestter longtubes, no cats, cutout, and y pipe
yank 3000 SS converter
bought this from a friend who sprayed this setup with a 175 shot into the intake tube and fed fuel off the rail.
ran a best of 12.16 on spray
It idles good at 950 in park even when its -30 degrees and starts up on the autostart first time.

I think it will run well. I've seen plenty of guys run a 3200 and be happy with that cam. You're going to be making good power. I would definitely go with the long tubes, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a high 12 in good weather if you don't run it on the 20's and can get it to give you a 1.80 off the line.
