Default Motor with piston slap?

I am starting a 408 build and found a used motor that is said to have piston slap, is this an issue since it will be bored to 4.030? It was sold as a running motor and the customer brought it back because they were just droping it in without rebuilding it. It is complete and about half the cost of anything I have found so far. It seems like most 6.0l in my area are sold as reman or used drop in and are a lot more money so it would be nice to be able to use this one. Any help is appreciated.

A bored/stroked engine or a stock rebuild both require the same start.....gameplan and a pulldown. Look at the disassembled parts and you can usually tell where the noise came from and good luck on your project and don't forget that plan.

So you think I would be ok to start with a block from a motor that had piston slap, or should I just bite the bullet and get one for twice as much?

you will be fine. piston slap is common and usually comes from worn down motors. when rebuilding the engine builder will set clearances to where needed and it will be nice and quiet if built correctly. all depends on how it gets built. since you plan to bore it its all in the builders hands on how loud that motors going to be once done.

If you are boring it and putting in new pistons then piston slap has literally nothing to do with parts you will be reusing.

Buy it.

Thanks, I just was not sure how much damage it could do to the bore.

If youre going .030 over then i'd say there is no chance its that far out of tolerance. generally bad piston slap can be solved with .005 over.

That's good news, for the complete engine they only want $650.00
