Default LT1 Questions

So I might be going a different direction with my truck with the possible pick up of a LT1 Camaro for cheap.

Anyone run one of these? Good or bad idea to build? Power potential?

the power potential is limited by the 4.00" bore, but you can go as far as converting SB2 heads onto that block.

If you plan on going fast with the camaro, then replace the rear end. They were given a glass axle by GM.

Depends what direction you go, they arent as easy to build power with as the ls motors, on with basic bolt ons and a cam can get you 340-380hp to the wheels through 4l60e.

if you get a standard definatly need to think about a rear end, if auto think about built tranny

Fun cars but not like the ls1s, let me know if you have more questions!

Oh yeah parts are expensive and i saw my spark plugs once when my exhaust was getting done!(there isnt much room to turn some wrenches)

I found you should always have more than a foot of extensions and lots of u joints for you socket set!!!

they're not all that expensive. the ONE area LS guys save money is in heads IF you stick with GM heads, no aftermarket. since LS engines are modular seems practically every head GM makes for that engine family will swap around. other than that LS parts seem to be slightly higher priced than LTx parts.

I have one in a T/A. It cost more than it's worth to make horsepower. I would stay clear of the LT1. Just my .02 worth.

Yes, I do. It's a good idea if u are upgrading from say a stock TBI to a LT1. I did this swaq on my 89 c1500. But, if u already have a LS, stay Gen3. Yes, they can make power. I've blown 1 stock trans ( albeit w/162k miles), 2 more built ones, & a stock rear. But, my LT1 has been tweaked a bit.
