Threw a piston thru the oil pan on my procharged lq9 in my Silverado SS. Does anybody have any experience with Texas Speed? I was thinking of buying a 408 short block built for boost? If not what about a cheap place to get a bare block?

 

toss another stocker in it and figure out why motor failed before spending thousands only to have chance of another motor failing.

 

I would rather do it right the first time. Im going to get a new tuner like zippy. I was just asking if anybody had any experience with texas speed or any other short blocks.

 

some have had luck some havent with TSP shortblocks

depending on yr of stock shortblock you can make more power then that procharger can support

 

I have heard some good things about Thompson Motorsports as well. They are based close to Dallas Texas. I believe foose04 is running one of their iron 5.7 engines on higher boost with a turbo so you might PM him and see how it is holding up so far.

 

carefull with thompson as well. Local car had their 5.7 boost setup and two of the valve seats came loose in the head and ended up costing the motor after 2000 miles

 

53bowtie, Thank you for the bump. That is our motor in the Foose04 truck as well as several hundred other boosted trucks. We have also worked with Spike Performance to set the record for the fastest LS powered truck in the world recently.

ScreamingL, I would greatly appreciate more info about this. I do not know anything about a motor like what you are describing and with our warranty it seems crazy that the first I would hear about it is through the grapevine. Not calling you a liar so please do not take the defense here but genuinely would like to find out if this is a true statement or some kind of he said she said that has nothing to do with us. motor was for a 2000 formula with a huron speed kit...maybe that will ring a bell or two for you

 

I am only aware of a single motor with a seat issue that I was told was caused by a motor over heating. I will agree that it is possible that there could be a second, we have however produced close to 1800 motors at this time. If this is in fact the car I am not sure how TMS or any engine builder can be held accountable for a motor that has over heated. With the above mentioned motor the customer agreed and ordered another motor to replace the damaged one as he agreed that the motor was not the problem. That being said we still offered to have the motor sent back to TMS for discounted repairs to help the customer re coupe some lost funds in the motor. I remember that the motor was boosted but can not remember if it was a HSP kit or not. In any case if this is the car it sounds like the story has had some major omissions as there is no problem with the TMS motor, the customer or the relationship.

This being said if it is not the motor please help make me aware of it. I will contact Jon at HSW tomorrow to see if he is aware of anything like this. We built the motor for Jon's personal car and many of his customers as well. I would assume that he is un aware as well, we talk with Jon or Casey generally one or more times a week for builds for other HSW customers. In any case I look forward to getting to the bottom of this. We take our products excellent quality very seriously and want to make sure we are aware of any and all failures experienced with TMS motors. This is the main reason for the un matched 1 year warranty that Thompson Motorsports offers. TMS like any engine builder is not free of flaws, We do experience failures in around 1% of our motors (also industry leading). We take every available opportunity using this warranty to learn from out mistakes and make immediate corrections to resolve any issues. When motors are sent back we are able to dissect the failure and determine the problem and resolution. With a little research you will also find that we go above and beyond in the rare occurrence that our customers experience a failure.
