A low grunt cam?

I think if you can install a magnacharger, you can do a cam too. Theres not much to it, all it takes is time and patience. Check out Ls1howto.com to see whats involved.

Springs are a must, pushrods are cheap insurance

The stock cam has the most grunt off idle to 3000rpm of any setup ive had, 408 with blower included.

I actually did check out that website earlier.Im sure I can probably do it.And Im sure theres little tricks to help the install go quicker that Ill learn the hard way Whats the average time to install just the cam considering everything going smoothly?And is there a few "You'd better not do that!"or "make sure" steps I should know about?Anyone one whos done it for the first time,can you throw in any advice tips please.Thanks.

I actually picked up a little bit off idle with the cam in my sig, but that was with tuning too...

Time to install the cam is different for everybody...some guys get the first one done in a few hours while others take a few days. Start on a Friday night just to be safe. Hardest, most tedious part of an initial cam swap is the springs IMO, get yourself a good spring compressor. The Crane tool is the best by far (I believe that TSP a lso makes their own variation of this tool). Getting the fan clutch off can be a little tricky, I hit mine with an air chisel and it came right off, some guys use a wrench and hammer, and if you search the GM Engine and Exhaust performance section, there is a thread or two about cam swaps including pics. Tyler (dirt track racer 81) did a neat trick with an engine belt wrapped around some of the pullies to secure the water pump and ease the removal of the fan clutch. Be sure to use some method to hold the lifters up, a lot of guys use 5/16 wooden dowels, and make sure that you get a new crank bolt, as the factory bolt is a one time use TTY bolt. The gaskets are reuseable, but I like to replace them, considering that both SDPC and TSP sell cam swap gasket kits fairly cheap, and their kits include the new crank bolt. It's pretty straight forward, and the LS1howto.com write up is dead on. I removed the radiator totally which gives you just enough room (I've heard of guys just lifting it out of the way), but there's no need to touch the AC condenser, just be careful not to launch the cam through it

Thanks for the input.I was going to do it next week.But purchased new tires and powder coated rims on my truck.Put a nice little dent in my wallet.unless I can get away with doing it for a couple hundred bucks.Its on the back burner for a few weeks.That'll give me time to really memorize on how to do it.All the old timers who can rebuild an engine with their eyes clothes.Are really timid to even say yes with helping on these 'newer' engines.Underneath the heads and intake,they are all pretty damn similar.

I'd like to see somebody come out with a baby single pattern cam. Should make insane low end torque especially since single patterns tend to have more low end than a standard split pattern.

Maybe something like 208/208 on 112 to 114 lsa or 210/210 on 112 to 114. Would be interesting to see how they worked.
