Hey guys.I got rid of my lifted 03 5.3L truck that I had installed a maggie on.I loved the hp and torque in the lower range rpm(1500 all the way up).Got rid of that truck and now have a 2wd,04 chevy with the same engine.Just got my Nelson tune in and welded up a 3" Magnaflow on it.I want to go a different route with this truck internally.I read most cams installed on your trucks are great from 3000 rpm range and up(just using the average rpm # seen).

Honestly my trucks 90% of the time dont even see 3 grand.I use all my driving from 1500rpm up to about 3 grand,daily driving.I love the way the trucks sound all lopey with a good cam (along with hp and torque,duh).What cam would be good for my typical rpm ranges?If there isn't one its no biggy.Ill just push the limits of what I can get away with in cali and it is what it is.

Wouldnt mind dumping on another maggie(but dont feel like dropping 5+ grand again).Im a fabricator and fabbing up my own turbo system would be easy also(itd be way cheaper to.But no way of getting a carb sticker for my set up kinda screws me).Sounds like internals is the middle ground when it comes to price and hp.Thanks guys

Who makes 212/218? Waht are the specs? Comp Cams? Texas Speed?

I think BlackGMC's cam would be better than the 212/218, Its on a shorter LSA which will bring the power down lower a bit and it will be more peaky. Not to mention, its .600 lift, anytime you can increase lift that is free power, it will not effect the driveability like duration will.

 

Comp makes one I know, the part number for it is in my siggy under parts wating to be bought for the low lift version, this is the cam that I'm going to go with. I searched through the site for it, and there's a dyno that showed 0 loss of low end and a good 30-35 up higher in the revs.

 

Lunati makes a 212/218 on a 113 I believe....

Might be good for some decent down-low (ish) power....

Good deal.I did some calling around today and no one in my area(central coast-California) installed cams.Im going to call Comp Cams tomorrow and see what they have to say.I wouldnt talking to someone who personally has it/post a video,so you dont get that sales pitch while wondering about which one to get.

I cruised by the only shop in my area that'd do a cam install....$900! Just for the install.And also I was thinking that since this is a mild cam.Is there really a need for different push rods and springs? If just 30hp gets to be to pricey to install and parts purchase...I'm just going to do another Maggie and install it myself again.
