Ideas for a cam in my truck need help

Default Ideas for a cam in my truck need help

I have and 08 5.3 2wd ext cab with a 4"lift on it.I've got Dynatech headers with hiflow cats with Corsa exhaust.I've got a K&N cold air intake.Ive got 60,000 miles on so I'm thinking of replacing the timing chain also since its all exposed.I personally wont be doing the work and I know it's going to need a tune when finished.I really like the more aggresive sound that I hear on some of the trucks in this forum .I don't drive my truck to work as much as I used because of gas prices so that's why I kinda want to do this now.I would appreciate any sugestion.

What other supporting mods are you planning for the truck?

Are you wanting to keep the stock torque converter or upgrade to a higher stalling one? Wanting to keep the stock gears also?

If you want to keep the stock torque converter then you will want something like a comp 212/218 cam at MAX. With that cam you will still have plenty of low end torque without a new converter. Later on you can always get an aftermarket converter. If you get something bigger than a 212/218, you will start losing low end torque, and will definitely need a higher stalling torque converter especially in your extended cab.

If you get a 3000rpm converter or so then you can start looking at a 220/220 cam or something in the LOW 220's.

I would be getting a higher stall converter than the stock one for sure that way it gives me more options.It has 3.73 in it now when I had my 02 corvette it had 3.73 seemed to work pretty well.What do you think should I go with 4.11.I was thinking of a shift kit for the tranny also.

Im also about to do a cam in my 5.3. I think i have narrowed it down to tsp 220 or the vinci trucker cam. Mine will be going in a 68 c10 with a 5.3, 4 l60 373 gears.

Well I got one quote so far kinda high I think..... it requires 15-18 hours of labor. That's right around $1500, just for labor cost, not including gaskets, seals, or the cost of the cam and lifters.

Sounds like they have head removal in that quote which isnt necessary, thats twice what it should take labor wise.

If he's replacing lifters it is. Price is still on the high side, but not too bad for having a shop do all the work. Find some local guys who know what they're doing off here and I'm sure you can get it done for a few hundred IMO.

I would recommend our TSP 220R camshaft on a 112 LSA, it will have a noticable note in your application. It wont be "racecar" crazy, but it will definitely be noticable over stock.

Make sure you get the DOD delete kit! That is why it's high they have to remove the heads to remove the DOD lifters and lifter trays and replace the valley cover too or you will have oil pressure problems! But you can get all this from TSP!!!
