Default I bought 2 cams...which one should I run?

99 5.3L
Fast 78 w/ Shaner S3 ported TB
Stock 852 heads with mild porting
Mac mid length headers with 2.5 dual exhaust and no cats.

This is in a 2750lb Rx-7 with 4:10lsd, a built 2004r with a 3200 stall.

Futral F11 228 230, 576 595, 114: I originally bought this cam and I hear its pretty sweet and has a subtle idle but I want more chop. I found a Comp Cam 230 234, 608 598, 111 but I'm not sure if it's "too big".

My Rx-7 is an occasional cruiser, not a purpose built car...just want to enjoy driving it around.

I'd like to mill the heads and get my compression up. I run 93 octane. Is 11.1 achievable by simply milling the heads and using thinner head gaskets?

I appreciate the help,
-Jason

I'd run the first one. You will still get a good chop with that cam and it better suits your conveter

I think you could get away with the bigger cam in that car. Should run pretty hard, esp with a bump in compression.

Thanks guys. I'm attracted to that 111LSA!

Can I get away with milling these heads .030?

11:1 is a tall order with stock 5.3 dished pistons. Using a gasket thinner than .040 risks running the piston into a chamber b/c the stock slugs stick .008" or so above deck. I've read here that cutting the heads more than .030" is where you start to have intake fitment issues.

You can always have the tuner dial in some idle chop.

Alright, so the Comp Cam 230 234, 608 598, 111 with .030 milled off the heads and .040 HG should be a safe bet.

The transmission is the CK Performance Street/Strip build. Should be fine (famous last words).
