you can do a basic smoothing job to the ports that will help you out, but if your not comfortable with it then I wouldn't worry about it. I never sold my 4.8/5.3 so i'm going to experement with those. but since you only have one set I can understand you dont want to risk messing them up.
there is alot of info in that porting thread, but keep in mind that you don't need to do all of it to increase your flow. take down the bump thats around the rocker arm bolt and open the bowls up a little. also look at port matching the exhaust to your headers, this shouldn't be intimidating at all and will help you out.
I would stick with the smaller cam since you already have it. untill you have the money for a new intake you wont be able to get to the powerband of that cam. it's known to die out at about 5500 rpms, you can use the money you would have spent on that cam to work on your heads.

alright so you would recommend porting them and maybe a polish? Im not real comfortable with trying my own head work so if I do I'd take it to a shop. And the cam is a b-day present from the woman. Like I said I found a big cam and it looked like it would be decent so I talked with the guy and he's already shipping it. All else fails when I get down to that point where Im going to swap the cam out for bigger I may look over it again real hard
