Default Head Replacement / UPgrades '04 5.3

So Im pretty sure Im going to find out that I have the Castech head issue. I wont know until tonight.

But besides just swapping out the heads for other stock heads - what other fairly low cost options are out there?

I know about the expensive options.

What else should I do while Im in there?

depending on mileage i would replace lifters n trays

heads you can do a 243/779 head swap or just replace the 706/862 casting with non cast techs

just depends on your budget

110,000 miles

Looking for a little HP bump. Nothing drastic. If it can be done without an *** ton of work, cool. If not fine and I'll just replace with not castech.

I was reading a little about 243/799 head replacement. I think you did it didnt you? I would have to .030 milled off the bottom right? What else would I need to do the swap?

i did the swap milled my heads .040
you must mill them .030 to get back to stock compression because the combustion chamber is 64cc vs the 706/862 61cc

i would replace lifters its only 150 and safe to do so since you right there anyways

lil bump in compression ratio
depends on how much timing you run may have to alter it some
But i run 28* with my setup on cheap gas...tune accordingly

Do you have a cam? I have some PRC stage 1 243 heads for only a couple hundred more than used untouched 243's that have been milled down to a 61.5cc chamber already. They come with dual springs and only have about 5k miles on them. If you wanted to do a cam swap these would be a great place to start thats for sure. If you don't have a cam then these heads are definitely overkill.

Hi errybody. What about a cam to go with the heads? I see alot of Z06 cams but get laughed at pretty much everytime I mention it.

Im going to take the day and research cams - since I get a damn thing about them. I mean I know what they do and know what the terms mean but I dont know how they affect performance / drivability.
