Exactly why I went to GM high tech performance for the answer lol. I figure they know their stuff on engine break ins. Plus they are dealing solely with an LSx motor, so none of this first gen motor breaking info getting mixed in with the 3rd/4th gen stuff.

My 2 cents,
Lurius

it's really not much different today, GEN1, GEN2, GEN3, Ford, Chevy, KIA, Magazine folks, Master GM Mechanics, Shadytree types; even the so called pros don't agree on how to break in a motor.
Pick a path and follow it, see how easy that was, LOL
J/K bro, but the truth is, there is not "one right way" to skin this cat.
As TurboGibbs alluded too, it depends more on components selected, clearances, & finishes as to how that particular motor should be broken-in mixed in with alot of personal preference

oh yeah, what I personally did was ask the guy who built my engine "how do you like your motors broken in?"

He said, give it a few heat cycles slowly increaing load, change the oil/filter, then beat the **** out of it, RAR!

btw, excellent topic!

Thats what I did with mine. 10-30 for the breakin, then changed it and used 10-30 again, now I'm on 2K miles, and it has it's first mobile 1 change in it now.

I asked my motor guym he told me to run 30w for the first 3k, change with 30w again until 6k, then begin the oil I will use long term. As far as break-in he told me to take it easy until I get in it one day and it feels like there is an extra 50 hp and it feels right. Thats when it is broke in. Talk to your builder, he is the one that has to warranty the motor.
