Default Check my math

I am double checking my SCR DCR. Here is the calculator I used.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...cr#post6886439

My set up is 2001 5.3 LM7 with TSP 228/228 .588/.588 112 with PRC Stg 2.5 Heads with 62cc chambers. Stock head gasket.

Here is what I put in,
Bore = 3.778
Stroke = 3.622
Rod Length = 6.098
Cylinders = 8
Deck Height = -.008
Piston dish = 2
Gasket thickness = 0.052
Chamber Vol. = 62

SCR = 10.23
DCR = 8.04

Would it be worth replacing the head gaskets with Cometics 0.040?
The new SCR = 10.52 DCR = 8.27

Opinions needed, thanks.

Sorry don't have time to do the math right now, I've been out of it for too long.

But I would got with the .040" Cometics to bump your DCR up.

Btw, this is the DCR calculator I used. Just make sure you enter in the correct cam numbers (use .006", not .050").

This is the best calculator I have found, it also takes into acount the elevation that your at. Mine is 8.0 at 2900ft and 8.5 at sea level. No wonder trucks run better there.

So I guess my numbers are correct. Anyone willing to guess what a bump of 0.23 in DCR would do for me? Just trying to figure out if it is worth the time and money.

Thanks guys

It appears that most gas engines make the best power with a DCR between 7.5 and 8.5 on 91 or better octane...Race engines, using high octane race gas, can tolerate higher DCR's with 8.8:1 to 9:1 a good DCR to shoot for.

Plus using the .040 gasket gives you better quench which helps resist detonation.

I believe the 5.3 pistons are 7cc dish just like the 6.0 pistons. not 2cc. Thats waht I was told over on ls1tech when trying to calculate my new DCR and SCR.

Where did you get the 2cc piston dish number? Because with 62cc chambers in those heads and stock pistons you should still be around 9.4-9.5 Static compression ratio, which would put your DCR in the mid to high 7's (just estimating).
