Default Cam Swap Question

My truck recently broke down. I took it to the mechanic and told me that the cam and lifters needed to be replaced. My truck had a TR 220-14 but I want to replace it with something similar si ve Thunder Racing is no longer available. Here is the cam that it had.

Do you know the lift on that cam? I found an old for sale ad that listed 220/220, .552 lift, 114 LSA.

Texas speed has a similar cam but its .600 lift

Or if you want to stay around ,550 lift, you could try there stage 3 low lift.

Or you could have some one custom grind one for you.

Btw my truck has a 3200 stall, I think I’ll go with the low lift since it’s my go to work truck (15 mile drive) what about the lifters. They have this on the website. Would I need to retune the truck?

If the cams are close in specs, you should be fine. I'd still retune to be safe. You're changing the airflow demands of the engine.

Even if the duration at 0.050" are the same, the rest of the lobe profiles can be different affecting the volumetric efficiency at different speeds and loads. Not to mention the intake and exhaust centerlines may be different; the ramps symmetrical or asymmetrical. Best to re-tune.

Default Update

Just a quick update, my truck got out of the mechanic and now is in need of a Tune since the gears seem to be off.

Huh? What gears are off? 🤔

The timing chain should of been aligned just as before. What is it doing? Missing or misfiring?

When I press the gas pedal it won’t respond and the rpm will rev up and then I’ll be to the next gear. I was thinking that it was because it needed to be re-tuned since I did the DOD delete and went with a bigger cam. (My truck was previously tuned before.

I mean the truck needs a tune but that does not sound right.

After a better inspection the electrical tape was around the top boot and nothing was damaged.
