i wound up having to use a 1/4" dowel in the pass side because the 5/16" i had got hung up around #6. does the cam feel like it kind of drops and then gets hung up, or does it just start getting tight? if it feels like it drops, then its hanging on a lobe or bearing journal like everyone has said. just give her a wiggle or two and work it out without banging up a bearing. if it is getting tight you might have to put a little *** in it and twist it on out.

SUCCESS!
JPR tool went right in! Cam came right out! Done! Less than 10 minutes! Tomorrow, I'll finish putting the radiator in & fire it up!

The first cam install I did I had rods in holding up the lifters. Pull the cam out a bit and I hear this clank, clank, clunk. Slide it back in and begin to cuss, knowing I dropped a lifter into the engine and dreading the idea of tearing the engine apart to pull out the darn thing. Get to checking and all the lifters are where they are supose to be.... I'm like WTF. Turns out the free end of the timing chain jarred loose just at that time and dropped down into the oil pan.
