Default Cam Swap Guys... Please help

Im doing my cam swap this weekend and have 2 questions;

1.Is the 0-ring for the oil pump necessary to change? If so, what is the part number? 12563963 doesnt come in GM Parts Direct. They must have changed there part numbers.

2. Is the correct front cover gasket GM P# 12574294?

Thanks!

You don't need to change the o-ring unless you're chaning/removing the oil pump. Removing the oil pump is not needed to swap the cam out, unless you're doing the timing chain too.

When I did my swap, the only gaskets I changed were the front cover and timing cover gaskets. Didnt change an o-ring, and I havent had any problems.

i reused all of my gaskets & the stock crank bolt. Havent had any problems at all, But i did only have 12.000 miles when i did my cam, so if you have a higher milage truck its good insurance agianst leaks.

Is it a good idea to change the oil pump with 44k on the odometer? Debating whether or not to buy a new ls6 pump.

The ls6 pump is a nice peice, if you go that route get the slp pressure valve update or go to ebay and check out their complete units ported and have pressure valve done.

Only 44k... if i were you i would mark the timing chain and the sprocket alike in its position and just move the chain aside. Its so much easier to not even mess with the oil pump. Frankly you dont need to touch the pump.

I changed mine. It doesnt take that much longer and youre already there. If you plan on keeping the 5.3 I would definately go with the cheap insureance of a new pump and new o ring.

I would definitely change the o-ring if you swap oil pumps. FYI, we have our LS6 ported and shimmed oil pumps on special right now for $119.99 + shipping. As mentioned, it's not required but it is cheap insurance. We also keep the o-rings for the pickup tube in stock if you need one of those at the same time. As for the timing cover gasket, you have the correct part number. We also keep those in stock if you want to get all of it at once.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I wouldnt mess with the pump. I reused my gaskets and I had 175K on the old motor. Make sure you put some RTV sealant where teh t-chain cover and oil pain meet in the corners.
