heh...yea that is rather general.

anyway, i dont know anything about swapping a new cam on. i have the 5.3L with basic bolt ons like intake/exhaust. i would like something that would be a direct swap if possible. so with that little bit of knowledge more, what kind hp you think i would generate and how much would the swap cost? If it REALLY depends a lot on which cam, then i guess just give me an idea of different cams/sizes...thanks

You willing to put a stall in your trans? That will decide cam choice also. Generally you can expect 35hp IMO with a healthy cam. I put down 330 to the wheels through a t-case in my Z71 with full bolt ons and a tune. I would recommend getting a Nelson tune first before you put a cam in because you will need a custom tune to make it run right. is your truck 4wd or 2wd extended cab or regular cab. I need FULL details of your truck what your goals are, mileage, daily driver?, rear gears, willing ot put a stall in the trans. Answer all that and I can steer you in the right direction.

yup. All costs including a good tune, cam, springs, pushrods would be somewhere around or a little over a grand. If you can find some used parts it could soften the financial blow. Here is a writeup on a camswap in an F-body which is damn near the same thing as our trucks.

I got my comp cam off ebay of $250, it was in perfect shape. My Zo6 springs off ebay for $40. my head were stage 2 ported for $500, and a dacco stall from my local trans shop for $215. Nitrous works system for $360. All I need now is cal tracks and slick and I should be in the high 12's. Thats what I love about nitrous, wanna go faster get a bigger drill bit.
